Beyond two souls

Beyond two souls
Beyond two souls, released on the 11th October 2013 is an interactive drama - action game for the PlayStation 3 console, it is highly regarded as one of the best motion games ever and with its deep story and characters it is one of the best stories of all time.

The plot of the story is very deep and is going to take some time to explain, so I'm going to summarize it in a couple of words... it's about a girl with a connected entity called Aiden. Oh yea the girl (Jodie) is played by none other than  Ellen Page, other characters include famous actor Willem Dafoe who plays Nathan Dawkins who is a head doctor at a facility. It begins with eight year old Jodie in the facility learning to control her entity called Aiden, but Aiden isn't easy to control as he is rather a troublemaker and doesn't want to be stuck with Jodie forever. In one scene Jodie is invited to a girls party, where you control her as she attempts to socialize with others, this doesn't go so well, as Jodie ends up getting bullied and is locked in an under the stairs cupboard, so when Aiden lets her out you can choose to leave the house or take revenge on them by controlling Aiden. We all know what everyone would pick, so I'll leave it at that for now, I don't want to ruin all of the game for you so to finish a brief description of the plot... The game shows you different parts of Jodie's life and how she has to cope with certain things like the CIA, homeless people and much more.
To review the game play would be quite ridiculous as there isn't much. The game consists of you moving the right  stick to where the white point is to move the story along, you can control Aiden by pressing triangle, and in most cases you control Jodie by simply moving the left stick... And that's about it for the game play. This is probably the games only downfall as without much game play it is simply just a movie with some interactive points.

The game was developed by Quantic Dreams who also developed Heavy Rain, it was first announced by CEO David Cage at Sony's press conference during the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2012, on the 27th April 2013 a trailer was released and under an hour's game footage was shown. The game didn't receive the best of reviews, Metacritic gave the game a disappointing  72/100, IGN gave the game a criticizing review as they said the game was too passive and it's plot was too muddy. Which I find quite strange as in my opinion, it's one of the best stories I've ever seen in a game.

The bits that I like about the game is of course the story as Ellen Page did a brilliant job with the voice acting and really brought the character (Jodie) to life, and the fact that you can control Aiden and do all sorts with him such as knocking things over, choking people, possessing people and scaring the crap out of people is brilliant. But with its positives, there are negatives and the biggest negative is the game play, you can only do several things within the game, there is no exploration and you can't do much with Jodie and that's the biggest disappointment.

To conclude the game has one of the best plots I've ever had the pleasure of playing, but with its lack of game play, I can only give the game a decent 7/10.
